Yesterday I spent a good portion of the day working on the internet. It is indeed a very slow process as the internet throughout the island is slow even though some state that they are high speed. I will say that as far as my journey and the anticipation of trying to accomplish the stories from the country I did not anticipate the slowness of their internet capabilities.
I’m getting quite acquainted with local inhabitants. Each morning I get my coffee from an oriental gentleman not even a half a block away where many others have their coffee as well. I love their fresh orange juice in the morning too and that vender is about a block away. I’m writing my entries from my room and as neighbors pass my doorway each great me with a cheery hello. I enjoy very much learning about all who live here. My cleaning person, Miss Mary is such a hard worker. She starts her day at 5am and helps her mother in the bakery and then she comes here and cleans. But her day isn’t done when she leaves here. She has three sons in their teens. Later, she opens a small boutique shop in the evening. My landlord, Miss Elma will always great me with a “hello Miss Pat”. She does indeed remind me of Mom. She cooks for her family every Sunday. And while I haven’t seen any of her tantalizing treats I can imagine. She has a smile on her face whenever I see her.
I spoke with one of the local wood carvers last night and my plan for the day is to cover a story on this individual and his art. I will try and post the story by tomorrow.
The cold front passed and today is much warmer than the last couple of days. But then, there’s a really nice breeze with this warmth and so it is very pleasant.
Until tomorrow…I sign off for now….
